About nohorobo
NohoRobo is an ambitious robotics team from North Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California! We participate annually in the FIRST Robotics Competition, as one of Southern California's leading student-run teams!
We are a tight-knit group of diverse and innovative high schoolers who have come together over our love of robotics and STEM. As a student-led team, we are not only responsible for building robots but also for raising our own funds through sponsorships and private donations, all while effectively scheduling and navigating each season. Our team encourages leading and contributing to the community.
In our first year of competing back in 2010, we received the Rookie Inspiration Award and made it to quarterfinals as a small and severely underfunded team. In 2015, our team advanced to semifinals as an alliance captain for the first time in team history. It marked a change in our existence and since then, we have been rising both in rank and success. We have also begun reaching out to the community and have been mentoring a VEX robotics team at Walter Reed Middle School, as well as hosted hands-on engineering workshops for kids at our local library.
What is FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit, international organization that combines intellect and innovation with sports-like events through the use of robots to attract students to STEM programs. FIRST allows student teams to make a name for themselves and compete in annual competitions. Teams are given six weeks to build a robot that fulfills the game/task given by FIRST. FIRST's overall goal is to spread STEM education to an aspiring generation of young engineers.
